主要以若虫、雌成虫聚集于小枝叶片、嫩梢、枝干等部位刺吸汁液，常造成树势衰弱，生长不良，而且，其分泌的大量蜜露会诱发严重的煤污病，小枝呈黑色，失去观赏价值。可在若虫孵化期喷洒40%速蚧克乳油1500倍液，或48%毒死蜱乳油1200倍液等杀灭若虫。
科学修剪 紫薇萌芽力强，极耐修剪，且花芽形成速度快，因此，花谢后及时剪除残花可促进植株多次抽生新梢，多次开花。早春修剪强度可稍大，疏除过密枝、重叠枝、徒长枝、内膛的病虫枝、枯死枝。重剪主侧枝、延长枝，压缩老枝，可使春季萌发分枝多，开花早。春季新梢生长至10厘米至15厘米时，保留8厘米至10厘米长摘心，使营养集中供应，以促进分枝，增加花枝量。第一次花谢后剪去花枝上部，留壮芽，使下部腋芽萌发，再生新梢孕蕾。30天左右可陆续第二次开花。花谢后及时剪除残花，积累营养，促进新枝花芽分化，约30天左右又可第三次开花。这样反复轮流修剪，并在每次开花前及时补充磷钾肥，可促进植株多次开花，且每次开花间隔时间缩短。可达到多次开花的目的。
